THE LEAN START-UP

WORKING IN ENTERPRISES
OF ALL SIZES

The Lean Startup Primer: It Works In Large And Small Enterprises

Agile Alliance describes Agile Development as a set of methods and practices where solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams based on a set of core values and principles. From these core values and principles, practices are developed.  Scrum, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), DevOps, and other methods are Agile methods.

Most people know Agile from specific techniques and practices such as the daily stand-up, story points, user stories, and more.  All these come from Agile’s fundamental values and principles.

The Lean Startup is one of these methods.  The Lean Startup deals with New Idea  Development and Launch.  It can tie in such functional areas as marketing and sales. At its core, it is a way of enabling your organization to test early and often. From this you can use what you learned to move forward and successfully scale new products / services / solutions with less long term risk.

The Lean Startup is one of the eight sources that contributed to the IIBA Guide To Product Ownership Analysis. This Guide builds on the need for structured analysis, requirements, and decision in product using the Product Owner role.

The Lean Startup isn’t limited to small enterprises or entrepreneur based organizations.  A big trends for large enterprise organizations is the concept of Intrapreneurership.  This basically is about incubating new ideas using entrepreneur tactics for which The Lean Startup method is valuable.

The presentation will describe what Lean Startup is. The presentation will address techniques that are a great match for The Lean Startup processes and activities.  We will look at some practical real-world examples of how The Lean Startup method can be executed within any organization type.

The goal is to provide both the concepts and principles of the Lean Startup method with real-world details of how to execute to significantly reduce the risks involved in new product development, and let the market help you make decisions regarding where you understand the market is evolving to.
