What Is Facilitation Anyways?

Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Time: 5:30 – 8:00 pm
Registration / Networking: 5:30 – 6:15 pm
Chapter News: 6:15 – 6:35 pm
Presentation: 6:35 – 8:00 pm

This month the IIBA Toronto Community is starting a Core Competencies Series. Our community will create a depository of resources that will identify and describe core competencies over the next 30 months into 2017. It will always be current and updated to reflect the many changes in our world. And it will be valid from varies views. These views includes what the BABOK v3.0 (and hopefully BABOK v4.0 by 2017), chief information officers (CIO), senior executives, consultants, contract recruiters, full employment recruiters, consultants, senior business analysts, newbies to the discipline and others sees as core competencies. We will also develop views by industry and domain, and what their needs are.

The Core Competencies Series will only be created by you participating in its creation and evolution. If you have an idea, some content, want to start a community of practice (CoP) around an industry or a competency and do so anywhere in the GTA, let me know and we will collaborate with realizing this solution for the many people and organizations in the IIBA Toronto Community. This means some of us will need to be the sponsor of the idea and others will need to be a mentor to the effort. We need everyone to participate, learn, benefit, give back and volunteer. It requires involvement! And the benefits are many and valuable! Start with an email to Harold Broos at president@iibatoronto.org and minimum one paragraph, or something more structured, describing the idea.

This month we kick off the Core Competencies Series with Mara Svenne of Mackenzie Investments and her interactive presentation on facilitations.

What is facilitation anyway? As a Business Analyst, how can you benefit from increasing your ability to facilitate meetings and problem-solving discussions? In this interactive session, you will be able to share your experiences with facilitated meetings, learn about how groups make decisions, and how to help a group come to a lasting consensus. What is that ‘magic’ that helps a group get that ‘aha’ moment of clarity? Attend this session to find out!

Participants will earn a CDU and PDU credit.
